Woman accused of stealing over $38K from Somerset Co. legion to pay off gambling debt

Somerset Co., PA (WJAC) — State police in Somerset County say a Markleton woman is facing charges, accused of stealing more than $38,000 from a local American Legion post and using it to make payments on online gambling sites. Troopers say Regina Sanner, 43, was hired in Sept. of 2020 to be the manager of the American Legion Post #279, located along Rockdale Road in Black Township. Authorities say the investigation into Sanner began in June, after the club's finance committee noticed multiple discrepancies. [Read More]

Destiny Outreach program protests decision at Johnstown City Council meeting

A protest was staged Wednesday evening at a regularly scheduled Johnstown City Council meeting. Representatives from Jefferson Memorial Church showed up to the meeting in order to protest against a decision made by the city to deny them funds from the 30.5 million federal ARPA, or the American Rescue Plan Act. The Jefferson Memorial Church and their Destiny Outreach program which provides meals for local children was one of 22 applications that was denied by the city. [Read More]

Former teacher charged with child rape arrested again

The former teacher in Tennessee who was accused of raping a child has been arrested again, less than three weeks later — this time for coercion of a witness, aggravated stalking, and harassment. Alissa McCommon, 38, was first arrested on Sept. 8. She bailed out and was not allowed to have any contact with the alleged victim, or any minors other than her own children. Lincoln Caverns restarts tours, with a few changes

HUNTINGDON CO, Pa (WJAC) — Lincoln Caverns in Huntingdon County is set to reopen again. Owners say the caverns lost a lot of business during the mandated closures caused by the spread of COVID-19. Now, they're offering cave tours, while still following the current social distancing guidelines. Masks are required, and will be provided, along with gloves. The Rathskeller, Spats Cafe to close Jan. 27

STATE COLLEGE - A week after it was announced that two landmark eateries in State College were closing, the owners have announced the official closing dates. The owners of The Rathskeller and Spats Cafe said their last day of business will be Jan. 27. Last week, it was revealed that both locations would be closed after the current owners and the building owners couldn't reach a lease agreement. USA Powerlifting must allow trans athletes in women's competitions, court rules

(TND) — A transgender athlete won a lawsuit against USA Powerlifting (USAPL), and a Minnesota court has subsequently ruled the sports organization must allow trans competitors in its women's divisions. USAPL had banned trans athlete JayCee Cooper from competing in its women's competitions, which reportedly led to Cooper filing a complaint with the Minnesota Department of Human Rights in 2019 and a lawsuit in state court in 2021. Blair County pediatrician arraigned on drug charges

ALTOONA - A pediatrician in Blair County turned herself in Tuesday morning on several drug charges. According to a criminal complaint, she’s accused of writing illegal prescriptions for her boyfriend, Andrew Smithmyer. Police said they are still trying to locate Smithmyer. Attorneys said Dr. Rebecca Delbaggio was fired from UPMC Children’s Community Pediatrics as a result of the investigation. Eldorado Civic group asking for public participation in recycling program, donations
