Dozens of cats rescued from Cambria County home

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities with the Cambria County Humane Society say dozens of cats were rescued Monday from a local residence. Officials say the Humane Society is now taking care of 59 cats involved in the "extreme hoarding" case. The Humane Society says that the cats have a variety of health concerns and are in need of veterinary care. Officials are also asking for food and other donations to assist in caring for the animals. Man acquitted of rape and other charges

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa — A Cambria County man was acquitted of all charges in a Jackson Township rape case. David Dernar, was accused of forcible rape, involuntary deviant sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault and sexual assault, according to online court documents. The District Attorney’s office confirmed Dernar was found not guilty on all charges on Tuesday. Police say in April of 2004, Dernar, who was 34 at the time, allegedly assaulted a 16-year-old girl at a home along Trout Street in Jackson Township. [Read More]

SCI Forest reports first COVID-19 inmate death

HARRISBURG, Pa (WJAC) — Officials with the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections announced the first COVID-19 inmate death at SCI Forest. Authorities say the inmate, whose name will not be released, was a 65-year-old male with underlying health conditions who passed away at a local hospital on Tuesday. 2 men arrested for alleged roles in northern border human smuggling scheme

SEATTLE (KOMO) — Two men connected to a northern border people smuggling scheme recently made their initial appearances in U.S. District Court in Seattle. Jesus Ortiz-Plata, 45, of Independence, Oregon, and Juan Pablo Cuellar Medina, 35, of Everett, Washington were arrested May 23 with three non-citizens who had been smuggled into the United States from Canada. TETON COUNTY, Wyo. (SBG) — Gabby Petito died by strangulation and her death is being ruled a homicide, according to a coroner's report delivered Tuesday.
